In Mark 4:35-40, the disciples were in a boat with Jesus when a severe storm arose. They were terrified and afraid of dying. The storm was raging around them while Jesus was sound asleep in the stern of the boat. The disciples woke Jesus and asked, “Don’t You care about us?” We may have asked that same question at some point. Raging storms take on many forms—sickness, finances, divorce, death of a loved one, etc. The list can go on and on. No one is exempt. However, the story continues with Jesus waking up and rebuking “the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” (Mark 4:39-40 NIV).This is another question that can apply to us. Faith in Jesus does not cause anxiety to instantly go away, but it does give us a safety net as we walk through our circumstances. We need to call on Him, trust Him, and cling to Him as He sees us through our raging storms. We aren’t alone; Jesus is in the boat right next to us.
It may not always be easy, but trust that in the storms we are never alone.
Jesus cares about every aspect of our lives.
