You Are, You Have, You Do

He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. –Ephesians 1:5 NIV

According to the world, what you do and what you have determine who you are. For example, if you’re the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company earning a large salary, your position and wealth make you important. In the world’s view, you are someone to be respected; your position is envied. But in God’s eyes, that’s not how it works. From God’s perspective, position, wealth, and power are insignificant. What’s important is that you are His child, you are seated at the King’s table, and you are both forgiven and redeemed. You have been adopted into His family—no longer a spiritual orphan trying to earn some kind of recognition. Because you are His child, no longer an orphan, you have everything you’ll ever need. Second Peter 1:3 (NIV) says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” This position then determines what you do. You work for Him out of love. With the Lord, you are, you have, and you do. It’s that simple.
