I have worked a lot of different jobs throughout my life. I’ve been a carny (no joke), and I’ve worked in hotels, restaurants, bars, and a church! I had a construction business, a cleaning business, and my own restaurant. Recently, for the past 10 years, I have worked for a medical device company in various capacities. In all of those places, I can honestly say that I never worked with all my heart. The NLT version of Colossians 3:23 says, “Work willingly as if working for the Lord.”‍

As a Jesus follower, I have to ask myself, “Am I giving my all as if I were working for the Lord?” Often, I am irritated and resentful. I compare and judge and gossip. I sometimes watch silly cat videos or check my email.

Am I a willing worker and a living example of my Savior? If I want to stand before Him and hear: “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” I need to practice being willing in all areas of my life—not just at church, or in my life group, or when it’s convenient and easy. I cannot do it alone; but by allowing God to shine through me, anything is possible!
