Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. –Colossians 3:23 NIV
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. –Colossians 3:23 NIV
I have worked a lot of different jobs throughout my life. I’ve been a carny (no joke), and I’ve worked in hotels, restaurants, bars, and a church! I had a construction business, a cleaning business, and my own restaurant. Recently, for the past 10 years, I have worked for a medical device company in various capacities. In all of those places, I can honestly say that I never worked with all my heart. The NLT version of Colossians 3:23 says, “Work willingly as if working for the Lord.”
As a Jesus follower, I have to ask myself, “Am I giving my all as if I were working for the Lord?” Often, I am irritated and resentful. I compare and judge and gossip. I sometimes watch silly cat videos or check my email.
Am I a willing worker and a living example of my Savior? If I want to stand before Him and hear: “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” I need to practice being willing in all areas of my life—not just at church, or in my life group, or when it’s convenient and easy. I cannot do it alone; but by allowing God to shine through me, anything is possible!
Holy God, help me to get out of Your way and let You shine through me. Help me to be a willing worker in every area of my life.
Holy Spirit, empty me of my flaws and fill me with Your light and love for all that I encounter.
