The Unseen

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” –John 20:29 NIV

In life, we depend on many things. Some people depend on their looks or intelligence. Others depend on their financial portfolio, physical strength, or social position. But all these things are fleeting. Beauty fades, knowledge can be surpassed, and finances can dwindle; and as we age, physical strength diminishes. Have you ever noticed that all the things we depend on are what we can see? Power, prestige, and position is what the world chases after.Yet isn’t it just like God to ask us to depend on, trust in, and rely upon what we can’t see? We can’t see Jesus, but we believe He exists and died for our sins. We can’t see the Holy Spirit, but we rely upon His guidance. We can’t see God, but we see His creation and believe He spoke it into existence. We can’t see faith, yet we walk by faith every day whether we know it or not. When we believe in what we can’t see, we need never fear that it will dwindle, fade, or disappear. Blessed are those who have not seen, yet believe.
