The focus of the Thanksgiving holiday has changed over the years. There seems to be more emphasis on Black Friday advertisements and shopping than on getting together with family and friends. We seem to have forgotten the significance of sharing a meal with loved ones and jointly expressing our gratitude to God for His many blessings. We have become so wrapped up in worries about Christmas shopping that we miss what this day has been set aside to commemorate.
Every one of us has something to be grateful for. As we look around our tables on this special holiday, we ought to express our thankfulness to the Lord for those who are with us. There is no guarantee that the same people will be there the following year. Every day we have is a gift from God. There is nothing wrong with watching football and eating too much turkey—but we need to remember that this is a day set aside to express gratitude to the Lord. In everything, we should give thanks—no matter the circumstances. This is the true purpose of Thanksgiving Day. God delights in the thankful hearts of His people.
Thank God for all the blessings in your life, not only on Thanksgiving Day but every day.
Thank the Lord that His love never changes, that He is with you, and that He will never leave you.
