Lessons from the Beach – Part Four

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. –Psalm 91:1 NIV

Storm Clouds…

As storm clouds approach the shore, beachgoers are warned to take shelter. These ominous clouds and the accompanying rumble of thunder may signal an imminent lightning strike. Many injuries and deaths have occurred as sunbathers waited too long to seek a safe place.

For each of us, approaching storm clouds may appear as we are tempted to participate in petty disputes, hang out with the fun crowd, take unnecessary risks, and bend the law. In His Word, the Lord urges us to be vigilant, watching for signs of turbulence in order to avoid the consequences. “But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife” (2 Timothy 2:23 NKJV). “In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them” (Proverbs 22:5 NIV). “The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence” (Proverbs 14:16 NLT). “A wise man sees sin and hides himself, but the fool goes on and suffers for it” (Proverbs 27:12 NLV). So, we must stay watchful, and as ominous clouds approach, “take refuge in the shelter of [the Lord’s] wings” (Psalm 61:4 NIV).

prayer focuses

Lord, help me to be wise and to avoid temptation, taking refuge in the shelter of Your wings.

Thank You, dear Lord, for providing a place of safety for me.
