Moses built an altar and called it the Lord is My Banner. –Exodus 17:15 NIV
The Israelites had escaped slavery in Egypt and had been wandering in the Wilderness for many years when they pitched their tents in Rephidim. These herdsmen, with their wives and children, were traveling to a promised land which they prayed would bring them hope and a future. It was there that the Amalekites, an evil, godless nomadic tribe, attacked them. The Amalekites were determined to destroy the nation of Israel.Moses commanded Joshua to gather up an army. He told him to “…go to fight the Amalekites…I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God’s in my hands” (Exodus 17:8 NIV). The rod signified God’s power and presence. God fought the battle for the Israelites that day, and they won.Where do we run when the devil presses hard towards us, attacking us from every angle? We need to let God take the lead, allowing Him to fight every battle. Jehovah Nissi means “The Lord is my banner.” Let God’s presence lead you into every battle. He is the Commander-in-Chief. Believe and trust in the Lord, proclaiming Jehovah Nissi. Let the God-Who-Conquers make you more than a conqueror through Him who loves and cares for you.
God, my Father, I pray that in every battle, I will be secure in Your presence.
Holy Spirit, prepare me at every moment to be ready to do battle.
