God Wins

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven…. –Matthew 5:44-45 NIV

The devastating events of September 11, 2001, were designed to destroy our unity and collective consciousness as a nation. They accomplished just the opposite, however. The chaos brought us together to serve, rescue, mourn, and regroup. People of every ilk stepped up, helping neighbors and strangers alike. Lifelong bonds were forged. We learned how resilient we are. That’s the good that God created from the mire and destruction of that terrible day. It seems unnatural to respond to such intense hatred with love, but that’s exactly what Jesus did on the Cross. And even though Satan is the ruler of this world, his days are numbered. He might win a few battles now and then, but we know who wins the war, and it’s not the enemy. He gets tossed into a lake of fire while we believers who remain steadfast get to spend an eternity in Heaven, existing with perfect peace in our Creator’s loving presence. We must let God fight our battles and handle our enemies, allowing His will to be done in spite of our fear, pain, and grief. Only He can bring beauty from the ashes of hatred and devastation.
