Eternal Life

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. –1 John 5:11 NIV

John 3:16 (NIV) says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Did you know that once we put our faith in Jesus as our Savior, eternal life is right now? It is experiencing moments of Heaven on earth. It is when you are awed by the depth of God’s love for you as you read His Word. It is when we worship together and sing praises to His name. It is when we align with God and His purpose for us and reflect His light into the world. Eternal life is a gift from God. We receive it as a gift by His mercy and grace. We cannot earn it. We will not experience this gift in its fullness in this world, but we can welcome magnificent daily glimpses. Through the Holy Spirit and a willing heart, we can focus on whatever is true, noble, pure, lovely, excellent, and praiseworthy (see Philippians 4:8). Through Jesus’ love and sacrifice, we are compelled to reciprocate with devotion to Him. We follow our King through our days, nights, and into eternity.
