In John 16:13, Jesus is telling us that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will guide us into all truth. The word “guide” is the Greek word odega, which describes a tour guide. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to convict sinners of their lost condition. “And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment” (John 16:8 NLT).What is the reason we finally reach a point when we know—without a doubt—that we need to humble ourselves, turn around, and start walking toward repentance? It’s the Holy Spirit calling to us. When we are dead in our sins, we can’t feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit. We need to ask Jesus to forgive us for our sins in order to be reconciled to our Father and receive the Holy Spirit’s guidance. And what an incredible tour guide He is!
