A True Picture of Love

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude… –1 Corinthians 13:4-5 ESV

Today is Valentine’s Day. Flowers and candy are certainly among the most popular items to bestow upon that special someone on this day. But, as wonderful as it may be to receive a floral bouquet or box of assorted chocolates, there are gifts which are infinitely better expressions of love. Demonstrating respect and kindness in our thoughts, words, and deeds are treasures beyond measure, as we honor the people who are special to us. It is easy to use the word love. But how does this word translate into action in our lives? True love should always be thoughtful, not selfish. It should be concerned more about others than about ourselves. In our own strength, it can be challenging to understand how to demonstrate real love. But, thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us. We are bound to fall short at times. But, every time we open our mouths, we are given the opportunity to use words of love, rather than unkind or hurtful expressions. As we go through this day, try to remember that love is patient and kind…not arrogant and rude. We can make every day Valentine’s Day!
