No longer will you be called Abram, your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. –Genesis 17:5 NIV
We learn in Genesis that, prior to the life of Abraham (and his grandson, Jacob), the nation of Israel did not exist. God built this entire nation through one man’s faithfulness. In Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV) God tells Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” This promise had ramifications not only for Abraham, but for all who trust in Christ as their Savior. When Jesus (a descendant of Abraham) came, He fulfilled the promise God made to Abraham. First Peter 2:9 (NLT) says, “…you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” God’s promise didn’t stop with the nation of Israel; it continues for all of us through our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus. Be faithful and shine the Lord’s light today!
Thank the Lord for the fulfillment of His promise of salvation in Jesus, our Savior.
Ask the Lord to guide you in being His light in the world today.
